Personal Mission Statement

Focus on how I can not only better myself but how I can better the world around me through even the smallest gestures.

Mission Statement

Seton Hill Mission Statement

Seton Hill is a Catholic university rooted in Judeo-Christian values. In the tradition of Elizabeth Ann Seton, we educate students to think and act critically, creatively, and ethically as productive members of society committed to transforming the world.

How I Met It

Not only have my graphic & interactive design courses challenged me to be creative, but my liberal arts courses, such as American Art and Composition & Culture, have also pushed my creative thought process. Working creatively has never been much of a challenge for me and these courses helped expand my preset skills. These courses have also enhanced my critical thinking causing me to focus on how I might reach a goal and to look further into ideas or topics before moving forward with them.

Social Justice Goal

Climate Change

During my Junior year at SHU, I discovered my new passion for helping change and alter the timeline of Climate Change. Through my Entrepreneurial Mindset course in addition to my Information Research & Design course, I created a business plan for recycling miscellaneous items in fashionable ways. Also, I designed an infographic that delivered information about plastic levels within the Earth’s oceans and how people can help reduce these high quantities.

I would like to continue to focus on this issue. Therefore, throughout my career and life, I could consciously think and inform clients, friends, etc. about how to make eco-friendly choices while using my services or other services. Continue to grow the voice of Climate Change activists, etc.

Hi my name is Rachel Dietsch, I am a Graphic and Interactive Design major with a concentration in Photography and minor in 2D Studio Art. This portfolio will contain works I have completed throughout my time here at Seton Hill University and how I have met the Learning Objectives. Seton Hill’s Liberal Arts program has given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge beyond my main field of focus, and I appreciate the knowledge and skills that I have gained through this program.

Overview

My time at Seton Hill has revolved around my studies and my drive to complete the university’s Learning Objectives under the domains of Communication and Problem Solving; Historical, Cultural, & Global Awareness; Multiple Modes of Inquiry; and Self Reflection & Assessment. Each domain offers numerous skills that Seton Hill students should gain from their Liberal Arts courses and studies. These courses have given me a different outlook on knowledge and the overall importance of being a well rounded academic.

Seton Hill’s Liberal Arts program has given me the tools I need to be successful within my career as well as having some additional knowledge other designers cannot bring to the table. With my new and expounded skills, I can confidently merge into my career as a designer. My values, goals, morals, and ethical mindset have grown while attending Seton Hill and I am excited to incorporate and continue my growth of these aspects into my career.
