Graphic designers must be able to manage and organize resources to communicate information to an audience with easy. Throughout my time at Seton Hill, I have completed multiple tasks that require this skill set, and the end results were successful. Both my design classes and my internship allowed to mature this skill set through my projects and assignments.

Specifically, Sister Mary Kay Neff’s Information Research and Design course had me create an infographic or the span of an entire semester. I completed masses of research from user research, audience research, product research, and research on microplastics in the oceans. I collected and compressed all of my resources down to use in my final infographic about the effects of microplastics in our oceans and what we can do to help. The piece was once again eye-catching and engaging as well as making it easy for audiences to digest the information.

Another way I organized and managed resources in a creative way to achieve impact was through video trailer I created for my Theatre and Dance Department internship. I collected my own videos by using videography skills I gained and honed from Seton Hill’s video course. Then I used information from the department to use as text within the video. The text expressed what the show is, who is putting it on, who choreographed in it, the dancers, where to find tickets, etc. I combined my videography, design, and editing skills to create a dynamic trailer that offered all the information plus visuals to inform and entice audiences to attend.
Locate and analyze expressive media to gain information or comprehend the significance of an issue or an event
As a liberal arts institute it is common that I be asked to research various topics relating to current issues or events. Over the past three years I have become very familiar with multiple issues at hand within our world, thanks to Seton Hill. Multiple courses have allowed me to explore expressive media that openly discusses issues in our country and around the globe.

My Senior Seminar course in-particular continued my research into the emission of plastic pollution into our oceans and how we as a community can help. The social justice issues letter assignment allowed me to research expressive medias that offered a new outlook on this deadly situation. I had to recover information from an article and book to back up my thoughts on plastic pollution, and then use this information to persuade a figure of authority. My analyzation of the expressive media showed my knowledge and care for the problem at hand.

Furthermore, I completed a group research project for my American Art course in which I located multiple forms of expressive media to back up my personal argument within the presentation. I found newspaper articles, journals, etc. that discussed the censorship of Alma Lopez’s piece Our Lady. Within the project I took the stance of the art world and how they felt about the controversy and censorship of the piece. Again, my use of expressive medias such as interviews and newspaper articles showed my knowledge and dedication to my voice.
